Olympique Marseille reach agreement with Real Sociedad for the loan of Nayef Aguerd
Olympique de Marseille have reached a preliminary agreement with Real Sociedad for the transfer of Moroccan international Nayef Aguerd, paving the way for the defender’s return to the Spanish club where he previously played during the 2024/2025 season.
According to the French website Foot Mercato, the agreement between the two clubs stipulates that Aguerd will join Real Sociedad on loan for €4 million, with an option to buy for €11 million, pending the completion of the final formalities.
Real Sociedad’s move comes after the Spanish club expressed a strong desire to bring back the Moroccan defender, who made a good impression during his previous stint, prompting the club’s management to intensify their efforts to secure his return.
Aguerd was open to returning to Real Sociedad, and his desire to join the Basque club played a significant role in accelerating negotiations, despite interest from other clubs.
Aguerd joined Olympique Marseille last summer from West Ham in a deal worth around €23 million, before becoming a key player in the French team’s defense.
The current negotiations come as Marseille seeks to restructure its squad and reduce its wage bill, while Real Sociedad aims to strengthen its defense in preparation for the new season and its participation in the Europa League.
