Barcelona issued an official statement Thursday evening announcing the cancellation of their friendly match in Morocco, which was scheduled to take place before the start of the 2026-2027 season.

The statement reads:

“The friendly match in Tangier has been cancelled.”

“FC Barcelona announces that it has ruled out the possibility of playing a friendly match for the men’s first team in Tangier on August 15.”

“Given the current uncertainty, FC Barcelona believes that the circumstances at this time are not suitable for holding this match.”

It is worth noting that the city of Ceuta has witnessed an unprecedented mass migration crisis from Morocco, with thousands attempting to cross into the city. This has resulted in the deaths of approximately 11 people and an influx of around 60,000 migrants, mostly young Moroccans, who swam towards Ceuta, driven by misleading rumors on social media claiming that the borders had been opened.
