Real Madrid lead the race to sign Kees Smith
According to Spanish media reports, Real Madrid is ahead of rivals Barcelona and Atlético Madrid in the race to sign young Dutch midfielder Kees Smit from AZ Alkmaar.
The Spanish newspaper AS revealed that all three clubs are monitoring the future of the 20-year-old Smit, who has emerged as one of the most promising talents in Dutch midfield, but Real Madrid appears to be the frontrunner to secure his signature.
Real Madrid is keen to strengthen its midfield, and Smit is highly regarded within the club. Barcelona and Atlético Madrid are also keeping a close eye on the player, leaving the competition for his future wide open.
This interest stems from Smit’s impressive performances with AZ Alkmaar, where he has caught the eye with his ability to play with both feet, his knack for breaking down defenses with passes and movement, and his versatility in playing multiple midfield positions.
According to reports, Smit’s transfer fee could reach around €60 million, as the player seeks a new challenge in his career. However, a further season with AZ Alkmaar to continue his development and gain more playing time is not out of the question.
Smit is represented by Portuguese agent Jorge Mendes, who is helping the player assess his options. While there is interest from Premier League clubs, reports indicate that the player prefers a move to La Liga.
