According to the Catalan newspaper Sport, Jules Koundé has emerged as a target for Arsenal to bolster their defense as the transfer window nears its final hours. The English club’s interest in the French defender comes after the Konsa deal fell through due to Aston Villa’s financial demands.

Arsenal are looking to strengthen their defense to provide more options, especially since Koundé can play as a center-back or right-back, a versatility that makes him a good fit for Mikel Arteta’s tactical needs.

Meanwhile, Koundé’s future at Barcelona remains uncertain given the Catalan club’s transfer activity, despite the player being under contract until 2030. Reports indicate that Barcelona might consider selling him if a suitable offer arrives, which could open the door for Arsenal to make a move for him.

Arsenal’s interest stems from their defensive deficiencies, with William Saliba sidelined with an injury before the start of the new season, and Jörgen Timber struggling with a thigh problem.

Koundé is seen as an option capable of providing Arteta with additional solutions, both at center-back and on the right flank, giving Arsenal greater flexibility in dealing with absences and competing in various competitions.

Koundé is expected to discuss his future with manager Hansi Flick, amid reports of interest from other clubs in the French defender, which could intensify the competition for his services in the final days of the transfer window.

While Arsenal are leading the search for a new defender, Koundé’s move to the Premier League remains contingent on Barcelona’s stance and the offer the London club might make, as well as the player’s own desire to resolve his future in the coming period.
