Valverde: “Mourinho’s personality? Sometimes he’s harsh with us.”
Real Madrid captain Federico Valverde spoke about his relationship with coach Jose Mourinho, praising the Portuguese manager’s approach to the players, despite acknowledging that he can be firm and strict at times.
“I didn’t expect Mourinho to be like this,” Valverde said after the 2-1 friendly win against Ferencváros. “He’s very close to us, and ultimately, he has a strong personality. Sometimes he’s tough, but I think that’s the way to help a player improve. I like the way he treats us, and the way he treats me in particular.”
The Real Madrid captain added, “I’m happy and I try to enjoy myself, and as captain, I also try to give my best so that my teammates and the coaching staff are in good spirits.”
Valverde also touched on the debut of his new teammate Bernardo Silva, saying: “Honestly, I enjoy having him and I’m learning from him. He’s a really great person, and he’s settled in with the team. I’ve always admired him as a player when I faced him as an opponent, and now we can have him with us.”
