Medical examination separates Aguerd from returning to Real Sociedad

Moroccan international Nayef Aguerd is very close to returning to Real Sociedad, after negotiations between the Spanish club and Olympique Marseille nearly reached an agreement for the Moroccan defender to join the Basque team on loan.

According to the Spanish newspaper Marca, the details of the deal are almost finalized, including the transfer fee to be paid by Real Sociedad, as well as an option to buy at the end of the loan period, which will not be mandatory.

Aguerd is expected to undergo the necessary medical examinations before the transfer is officially completed, especially since his physical condition is one of the biggest concerns surrounding this deal. Real Sociedad’s management wants to ensure the Moroccan defender’s readiness and ability to participate fully in the new season.

The decision to sign Aguerd comes after club officials, led by Eric Britos, decided to bring back the Moroccan player, who previously wore the Real Sociedad jersey, in an effort to strengthen the team’s defense.

The same sources indicate that Aguerd’s return could give Real Sociedad more time to decide the future of some of their defenders, given the situation of 25-year-old John Pacheco, whom the club doesn’t seem likely to continue relying on for another season.

This also applies to Casunari Keita, whom Real Sociedad signed permanently more than a month ago, following his impressive performances and significant development with the Sansi team.

Aguerd remains a candidate to be Real Sociedad’s first signing in preparation for the 2026-2027 season, pending his medical examination.
