Lille have begun their search for a replacement for Moroccan international Ayoub Bouadi, who is close to joining Manchester City during the current summer transfer window.

According to the Spanish newspaper Marca, Lille officials have set their sights on Real Madrid Castilla player Jorge Cestero as a potential replacement for Bouadi in the team’s midfield.

This comes at a time when Lille are undergoing a transitional period under new coach David Ancelotti, following the departure of several key players, including Chancel Mbemba, Aissa Mandi, Thomas Meunier, and Hugo Ragober. This has prompted the club’s management to accelerate their activity in the transfer market in preparation for the new season, which will see the team return to the Champions League.

The French club has already strengthened its squad with the signings of Başar Ünal, Lon Srdanović, and Tanguy Kouassi, but the management still sees the need to reinforce several positions, particularly the midfield, in anticipation of Bouadi’s departure.

The 18-year-old is considered one of the most promising young talents in European football, having impressed with his performances for the Moroccan national team at the 2016 World Cup. This significantly increased his market value, with Lille president Olivier Letang previously stating that the player’s worth could exceed €100 million.

According to media reports, negotiations between Lille and Manchester City have reached an advanced stage. The only remaining point of contention concerns the player’s future next season. Lille wants to keep him on loan for another season, while the English club prefers a permanent transfer.

Lille officials believe that signing Sergio, whether on loan or through a permanent deal, would be a suitable replacement for the potential departure of Ayoub Bouadi, especially since he possesses similar technical qualities to the Moroccan midfielder and is considered one of the most promising young talents in Real Madrid’s academy.
