Rashford returns to Manchester with his previous number from Barcelona

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Marcus Rashford will wear the number 14 shirt for Manchester United in the 2026/27 season, the same number he wore during his loan spell at Barcelona last season.
The choice of number 14 comes as Matheus Cunha is already wearing the number 10 shirt, which Rashford previously wore at Manchester United. Reports indicate that the club is open to letting the player go if no suitable offer arrives from a major European club.
Rashford returned to Manchester United’s Carrington training ground on Sunday, having been away from the first team since December 2024, when his last appearance was against Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League. Prior to that, he had made 426 appearances for United, according to club figures and reports published at the time.
During his absence, Rashford went on loan to Aston Villa and then Barcelona, where he wore the number 14 shirt. He had a good season with Barcelona, scoring 14 goals and providing 12 assists in all competitions, before returning to Manchester United after the Spanish club declined to exercise their option to buy him.
Rashford’s return comes at a new juncture under Michael Carrick, following the departure of Ruben Amorim from Manchester United. The player will have the opportunity to prove himself and compete for a place in the starting lineup as the new season begins, but his future with the club remains uncertain and depends on what transpires during the current transfer window.
Rashford is expected to join his Manchester United teammates at their training camp in Dublin, where the team is preparing to face Leeds United on August 12th. They will then conclude their pre-season program with a match against AC Milan in Poland on August 15th. This final match could give Rashford the chance to face his former coach, Ruben Amorim, who is now in charge of AC Milan.
